Keep the Lights On, All Lights Film Magazine, ALFM

In 1988 Manhattan, documentary filmmaker Erik (Thure Lindhardt) and closeted lawyer Paul (Zachary Booth) meet through a casual sexual encounter, but soon develop a deeper connection and become live-in lovers. Over the course of a decade, the film charts the dramatic ups and downs of their relationship, as the closeted and emotionally unstable Paul binges on drugs and sex and Erik struggles to negotiate his boundaries while staying true to himself.

A film about sex, friendship, intimacy and most of all, love, Keep the Lights On takes an honest look at the nature of relationships in our times.

Keep the Lights On directed by Ira Sachs opens at TIFF Bell Lightbox on Friday, October 12, 2012.
