Goa, all set to host 43rd edition of IFFI

Goa Film Festival, All Lights Film Festival, ALFMGoa, the beach city of India, is all set to host one of the most significant film festivals of Asia, the International Film Festival of India. The festival will be held from 20th November to 30th November, 2012. The festival will open with the premiere of the most awaited 3D movie ‘Life of Pi’ directed by the Academy Award winning director Ang Lee. Meera Nair’s ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ will be the closing film. The festival is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Goa. 

The first edition of IFFI was in Mumbai, 1952. It was organized by the film division of Government of India. The festival was subsequently taken to Madras, Delhi, Calcutta and Trivandrum.
In 2004 the festival was moved to Goa and since then it is an annual event held at Goa. To set a new paradigm and improve the quality of the festival an expert committee has set up in 2009 to run the festival. The committee includes experts from various fields of film making. IFFI aims to nurture, encourage and inspire Indian cinema and introduce it to the world outside as well as the many audiences that coexist in this vast and diverse country. With rapid technology changes, the importance of this festival will only grow as it will bring viewers and filmmakers together and expose them to emerging technologies and the challenge of the emerging new media.

Film Bazaar, the film market associated with the IFFI will start on 21st November which will include the market premiere of films from all over the world. Film Bazaar is an evolving trade market for film industry professionals, Film Bazaar is committed to discover and support significantly compelling talent from South Asia and address key concerns of the world film community in the dynamic domain of film development, production, and distribution. From 2007 onwards FB is a converging point for buyers and sellers of film rights and is aimed at facilitating sales of world cinema in the South Asian region and the promotion of Indian Cinema in the international domain.

Indian Panorama, the exclusive section for the premiere of Indian films will be screening 18 films this year. The jury for Feature films, headed by renowned filmmaker Shri. Buddhadeb Dasgupta, selected 18 films out of a total of 144 eligible entries. Marathi film “Deool” (Director: Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni) and the film “Byari” in the language Byari (Director :Suveeran) which won the Best Feature Film shared award at the recent 59thNationalFilm Awards for the year 2011 are the 19th and 20th film of Indian Panorama, 2012, by virtue of direct entry. The 10 member jury took 21 days to finalize the selections. The non feature session of Indian Panorama will have 19 films to screen.
