IFFK to Pay Tribute to Passed Away Legends

International Film Festival of Kerala will pay tribute to the artists and film makers who passed away last year in a special retrospective session. The festival will offer homage to Thilakan, Navodaya Appachan, Vindhyan, T.Damodaran, Jose Prakash, C.P.Padmakumar, Ashok Mehta, Chris Marker and Shindo.

The section will screen ‘Perunthachan’ as homage to Thilakan. Thilakan has started his career as a theatre artiste during the 1950s before shifting base to the movie industry with 'Periyar', released in 1973. Since then, the versatile actor has worked in over 200 Malayalam movies in a career that spanned over three decades. He has two national awards and nine state awards to his credits. The festival will honor Navodaya Appachan by screening ‘Yente Mammattikkuttiyammakku’ which is produced by him and directed by Fazil. Navodaya Appachan is considered as one of the greatest producers of all time in Malayalam film industry. He is the producer if the film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’ which is the first Indian 3D film.

T.Damodaran is considered as one of the most talented script writers in the Malayalm film industry. ‘Kalapani’ directed by Priyadarshan in which T.Damodaran has penned the script will be screened in the session. ‘Olavum Theeravum’ will be screened to remember Jose Prakash, the ever green villain of Malayalam cinema. C. P. Padmakumar, the man behind films such as Aparna and Sammohanam, was an art-director turned director and producer. Sammohanam will be played at the IFFK, reminding the audience of Malayalam cinema’s loss.

The man behind the camera for films like Bandit Queen, 36 Chowringee Lane and Utsav , Ashok Mehta, is remembered for, Bandit Queen , directed by Shekhar Kapur will be featured at the Festival. ‘La Jetee’ and ‘The Naked Island’ will be featured in the session to honor Chris Marker and Shindo respectively.

The 12th edition of IFFK will commence on 9th December 2012 go on till 14th December 2012. More than ten thousand film enthusiasts from inside and outside the country has registered as delegates. Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Ring’ will be the opening film. 14 films from countries of Asia, Latin America and Africa will compete for the coveted "Suvarna Chakoram" (Golden Crow Pheasant) and other awards in IFFK-2012. Veteran film maker Paul Cox is the jury chief for the competition section. Including Paul Cox 151 guests will be there. Guest list from India includes Ritu Parnaghosh, Gireesah Kasaravalli, Govind Nihlani and Deepa Mehta. Kim Ki Duk, Payari Yamago, Alan Gomis and Catherin Masood are included in the international guest list.
