Hong Kong is a land of rich cultural diversity, a major tourism destination attracting thousands of tourists every year. Besides the serene environment, Hong Kong is also famous for 'Hong Kong FILMART, Asia's largest film and entertainment market held every year to promote Hong Kong as the regional hub for sales and production of film and television.
Organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the 19th edition of the film market will be held from 23rd to 26th March at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Regarded as a significant cross - media, cross - industry entertainment trade platform, the FILMART excels in promoting areas of film financing, distribution, production, post-production, TV, digital entertainment, film & broadcasting and also location shooting.
Last year, Hong Kong FILMART saw a 9% increase in the number of exhibitors as compared to its previous editions. Over 770 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions participated in the FILMART, pavilions including first time pavilions from Russia, were seen at the exhibition. American Pavilion returned with increased number of nearly 40 US companies. Other returning pavilions are from Canada, Chinese mainland, France, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and United Kingdom etc. 6,753 visitors from 51 countries and regions attended the market, increased by 7% compared with figures in 2013. With "Screening Blast" campaign to highlight screenings at FILMART, over 400 screening sessions were held (12% increase as compared with 2013), including around 80 world or international premieres. 37 films were screened, inspiring attendees with an appetite of Asian movies. Some of the distinguished productions include "The Midnight After", "Aberdeen" by Hong Kong and "Black Coal, Thin Ice" from Chinese mainland.
With the aim to become one-stop-shop concept to host various elements of the film industry under one roof, Hong Kong FILMART continues its pursuit to be bigger and better to provide its attendees an exciting and never before experience at the FILMART.
This year, the FILMART expects delegates from various territories including Chinese mainland, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Visitors are also expected from emerging markets such as Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa and United Arab Emirates. The FILMART also expects to welcome over 770 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions. Other renowned international exhibitors returning with their pavilions this year include Canada, Chinese mainland, EU, France, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the Philippines,Russia, Taiwan, UK and USA.
It is expected that over 150 digital entertainment companies will participate at the market, including about 40 Hong Kong companies joining under the Animation and Digital Entertainment Pavilion funded by Create HK. This year again, Short Film Café will showcase award winning short films in the area and Business Intellectual Property Zone (BIP Zone) will be continued with consultation available onsite from consultants and lawyers, with additional promotion for the Asia IP Exchange (AsiaIPEX).
An event record of over 80 World and International Premieres will be screened at FILMART. Other than the existing screening venues in HKCEC, the newly renovated UA Cine Times (Times Square, Causeway Bay) is the new screening venue. Just like every year, this year too, a series of thematic conferences will be organized at the FILMART. Six thematic conferences gathering expert speakers of various industries, i.e. TV, digital entertainment, music to share their views on the latest market trends with the audiences.

Some of the topics which would be discussed include: Find your opportunities in the Media Convergence Age, TV World 2015 International Forum: The rise of TV streaming - opportunities and challenges, Digital Entertainment Summit: T For Transmedia: Immersive Storyworld and a new way of audience engagement. In addition to the above, the FILMART will also host The 5th Hong Kong International Mobile Awards, to recognise all outstanding mobile films.
The 9th edition of "TV World", a unique one-stop trade platform for television and broadcasting professionals, will cover different events including TV screenings,International forum and Networking activities. This forum was designed to enhance the competitiveness among the professionals in this field and help them explore new business opportunities. The theme of this year’s "TV World" would be "The Rise of TV Streaming" where leading figures from the industry would share their thoughts and ideas . Strong presence of TV sector is another highlight of FILMART and “TV World” is expected to be attended by 300+ TV related exhibitors this year and they will cover local broadcasters such as TVB, now TV, RTHK and ATV, as well as major TV stations from overseas such as CCTV from Chinese mainland, NHK and TBS from Japan, SBS and KBS from Korea, ABS-CBN from the Philippines. Besides the FILMART, the 4 day extravagance will also witness a business forum of HK Asia-Pop Music Festival. Discussing about the music market in Asia with surging digital platform, the event will be held on 26th March where industry professionals will present the latest trends and business opportunities for the music industry. The HK Asia-Pop Music Festival (main event) will be held on 27th March 2015.
